Who can apply?
Only citizens of a country with an active working holiday scheme can apply, and New Zealand runs the Philippines scheme separately from the schemes it runs with other countries.
The Philippines scheme’s published age range is 18 to 30 years. That band differs from some other schemes: the United Kingdom and Canada schemes both run 18 to 35, while the United States scheme matches the Philippines scheme at 18 to 30. Each scheme’s own page sets the age band that applies to citizens of that country, and one country’s age band does not carry over to another’s.

The Philippines working holiday visa costs from NZD $770, Immigration New Zealand’s published application fee, and requires proof of at least NZD $4,200 to cover living expenses.

The Philippines scheme requires proof of at least NZD $4,200 to cover living expenses, as published on Immigration New Zealand’s Philippines Working Holiday Visa page, alongside the NZD $770 application fee and the 18 to 30 age range its published details set out. The United States scheme states the identical NZD $4,200 minimum on its own page, using the same wording. The United Kingdom scheme states the requirement differently, at NZD $350 for every month of the stay applied for, which comes to NZD $4,200 over a 12 month stay and to more over a longer one. Canada’s page states both figures, the flat NZD $4,200 and the NZD $350 a month figure, in different parts of its own guidance on organising proof of funds for that scheme.

What work is allowed?
Working holiday visa holders may take temporary or seasonal work across many industries, but not a permanent job.
The United States, United Kingdom and Canada schemes each exclude business ownership and involvement in commercial sexual services from the work permitted, as published on their Immigration New Zealand pages.
